Cartier Gouache Drawing Necklace
Cartier. Gouache drawing on tracing paper depicting a necklace made as a special order for Chief AO Fernandez during the 1970s to commemorate his Yoruba affiliation. The various inscriptions tell us that the necklace was made with the following materials: gold, rubies, sapphires, coral beads, and nephrite jade
- Tracing paper dimensions: 76 x 36 cm
- As it should be: the original gouache is always made to scale 1: that is to say that the necklace created has exactly the same dimensions as the one represented. The proof is: this incredible necklace is currently kept in a private collection in New York
- The master key specifies the name of the sponsor: “Specially designed by Cartier Ltd for Chief AO Fernandez.” Attached is a full-length portrait of this chef with an extraordinary life
- Slight sun wear on the corners
- Gouache remains a technique specific to the field of jewelry. The materials used are always the same: gouache and tracing paper
- This is the fundamental and preparatory step in creating a piece of jewelry. If you’d like to learn more, visit the blog and rediscover a wonderful exhibition created by the Van Clef & Arpels School of Jewelry Arts in 2021
